Community
Attending IUP has allowed me to step up as a leader in my community. I have encompassed many volunteer opportunities which include the Indiana community garden (ICG), Volunteer author of IUP's Gold Medal Meals, and opportunities through the Student Association of Nutrition and Dietetics (SAND). Being evolved with community projects has given me insight to how much of a difference one volunteer can make. I played an important role in connecting other organizations I am evolved in such as SAND and IUP athletes to help make a difference at the ICG. Volunteering at the garden allowed me to see first hand how volunteer opportunities can also make an educational impact on others.
The road to helping others enhance their personal nutrition begins with education. There are many misconceptions about nutrition due to false information all over the media. As a result, I feel that it is my job to use my education within my community to limit false nutrition claims. Ways that I have helped enhance my communities nutrition knowledge is conducting nutrition seminars to my local gym (Forever Fitness), writing weekly nutrition blogs, and using my personal social media accounts to post nutrition information.
